2015 Outfit Round-Up

I'm not a big one when it comes to New Years, I've never properly celebrated, made any 'resolutions' or set myself goals, it's just not for me. But to round off the year here on Fashion Dew I decided to round up some of the better outfits of the year. It's safe to say that the latter half of 2015 wasn't just better for me personally but clearly for my outfits too. 2015 has been a lot about me working out who I am and where I fit, and clearly working out my personal style. My only hope is that it keeps on improving because some of those looks were questionable to say the least.

Whats your favourite look of 2015?

Christmas Eve

Forgive me for the lack of posts, the last couple weeks have been a little crazy and I'm so bad at planning ahead, but as it's the season for forgiveness and Christmas tomorrow, am I okay? ;)

I've spent the last fortnight travelling to Berlin (posts coming soon!), visiting family and generally enjoying the company, but the next couple of days I can relax a little and focus on spending time with my family. We have far to much food in this house for just the four of us and a mountain of presents to get through which is leaving pretty confident tomorrow is going to be a good day. Christmas is one of my favourite days of the year simply because I get to spend it with my family and there's nothing I love more. So tonight will definitely be spend chilling with my parents, drinking fancy liqueurs and watching trashy festive films like all good Christmas eves in this house!

I hope all your Christmases are everything you're hoping for and spent with good company, do you have any special plans?

Merry Christmas everyone xxxx

4 reasons it's okay to not feel festive

I've been reading a ton of posts lately about Christmas, obviously, it's Decemeber and a given people are going to be posting gift guides, Xmas outfits, decoration inspiration. But I'm sitting here reading through and I feel like the grinch or something because I'm so not feeling it. I'm not in a festive spirit at all, no Christmas songs or sitting down watching Christmas movies for me. Hopefully I'll start to feel festive whilst in Berlin this week but for now it's just not happening. But, for those of you who are feeling a bit like me I thought I'd tell you, it's okay, it's okay not to feel festive and here's a couple reasons why.

Its just one day, just 24 hours.
This probably does sound grinch like but essentially it is just one day and chances are you'll sleep for half of it. There's a lot of pressure to make sure that one day is perfect, sometimes there can be quite an overwhelming pressure to ace 'The perfect Christmas' but let yourself breathe a little. Try and take the pressure off, it's just one day.

High expectations = Disappointment
We're all guilty of letting our imagination run a bit wild, we start to have expectations which are so not realistic and essentially we're left disappointed. We don't just do it for Christmas but birthdays, holidays etc as well, it's just at this time of the year expectations get a little out of control. I find it best to just have mild expectations, not really get massively excited for anything and that way when good things do happen its much more exciting.

It can be a difficult for personal reasons
Christmas can be so hard if you've lost someone close to you. I lost one of my close friends 18 months ago and not only is it hard not having her here for this time but her birthday falls in the middle of December. So, this month especially, I can constantly feel her absence. Last year was the worst, it was the first Christmas and birthday we spent without her and it was so hard for me to feel happy without feeling guilty about it. This year it's a little easier and every year it will be but it doesn't mean it doesn't feel wrong to be happy and festive without her here.

It's okay, your feelings are vaild
It probably feels like everyone around you is throwing tinsel around, dancing to Christmas songs and generally getting all cheesy and festive, or that's how it feels for me anyway and I feel a little bit like I'm looking into a snow globe with everyone else inside. Weird example, moving on. But you just have to accept how you feel is how you feel, you just need to accept it. Once I accepted how I felt it was like a whole weight was lifted, I let myself relax a little bit because it's okay to just not be feeling it. And who knows, maybe a more relaxed approach will allow me to start enjoying the season a little.

But what about you, are you feeling festive or not so much this year? How are you dealing with it, any advice to help a gal out?

Holiday style guide with The Black Tux

Didn't I tell you we've got some exciting things coming up here?

Jumpsuit - H&M
Shoes - M&S (similar)
Bag - Primark

I've never been to a proper Christmas party before, just my age I think, or that none of my circles reached that far. But this year, with a few parties coming up, it was time to jump in with all of it, and honestly, I found it a complete nightmare! Trying to find the perfect look just left me with so many questions (and hours in tiny fitting rooms), is it too formal? Is is too casual? Too much skin? Not enough skin? Age appropriate? Yeah, I think we've all been there and then, once you've finally found 'the one', how do you style it? Well luckily for me, this year, I've teamed up with The Black Tux to grab some styling tips and share their holiday style guide. Plus, bonus points, they'll help style your date too ;)

Thinking forward to my event, it was a pretty sm-ancy affair, but not to over the top that meant I had to wear an evening gown, something slightly formal and 'adult' were the only guidelines and to my surprise I found just that in H&M. Seen as dresses leave me in all sort of a tizzy, I opted for a jumpsuit, not a classic party look but it gave me a gorg silhouette plus, I was totally feeling myself. The slightly masculine, power-woman appeal of this jumpsuit completely won be over, a garment that can embody a whole new feeling, a new confidence, is always a winner in my book. The only down side is the jumpsuit probably isn't made for ladies with a little bit more on top, safety pins are my saviour.

In terms of styling I went back to The Black Tux's style guide for a little guidance, cause sometimes I'm pretty hopeless. Even though I found myself a little in between formal and professional, I decided to mix the two together, letting the jumpsuit do the talking but making sure my accessories made an impression as well. These lace up heels were there to add a playful touch, and even though I was wearing for the first time my feet survived the whole night, which was a complete blast btw, and I managed to bag a ton of compliments, winning!

Hopefully this little guide can help you out too, plus, The Black Tux are a great source to grab your date a look too with their tuxedo rental service, perfect party season for both of you!

The Album Edit #1

Happy Monday, or as happy as it can be for a Monday morning. I'm coming up to a super busy fortnight with the last weeks on uni and my deadlines fast approaching. It means stacking up a load of studio hours over the coming days and one of the best things to help me through is music, and loads of coffee. I've been listening to a ton of new albums recently (read: they're new for me anyways) so I thought I'd make an edit of my favourites at the moment, alternatively I made a little playlist *here* of my fave songs from each album!

Blurryface - Twenty One Pilots
I was a little late catching onto this band but after seeing their EMAs performance I decided to check 'em out, they're probably more for a particular taste in music but they blew up in the underground pop scene a while ago. With influences from a load of different genres, including a little reggae, and raw, honest lyrics I've found myself a little obsessed. Blurryface is stuck on repeat.

Jamie Lawson (Self-titled)
I'm sure you've all heard of this guy after I wasn't expecting that was so popular and if you love the song, check out the album, it doesn't disappoint. With acoustic melodies and that similar optimism and romance as Ed Sheeran, this album is great for chilling out and some easy listening on a long afternoon.

Sounds Good Feels Good - 5 Seconds of Summer
Still talking about this album, not stopping anytime soon. This album is so much more grown up than their debut and the music, the sound itself, is more self aware and realised. I will not stop talking about this album until every single one of you has listened to it. It's my favourite, always.

Badlands - Halsey
You might have recently started hearing about Halsey cause of her collab with Bieber. Well her album is arguably my album of the year, it's aggressive, straight talking and feels more like a story of youth than an album. Plus, damn girl can out on a show, she's one to watch.

Grand Romantic - Nate Ruess
I supposed you'd call him 'indie rock' or something, I just know him as the lead singer of Fun. and his solo album has a really similar sound, if feels like he's pouring his heart out all over the tracks and I love it.

Handwritten - Shawn Mendes
I still love this album, not gonna lie I've been listening to it for months now and yeah, still not over it. It has all the puppy-love elements you'd expect from a 17 year old and his guitar but in a more playful, not-taking-himself-so-serious way. Plus it feels intimate, like you're the only one he's singing to and I'm a sucker for that.

I've made a little playlist here as well, what are you guys listening too at the moment to get you through the last few weeks of term?

Earth* Subject To Availability

 Top - Rad.
Jeans - ASOS
Phone Case - Coconut Lane

I brought this top from rad a little while back thinking 'oh it's sooo tumblr' but as soon as it arrived it was quickly lost to the tumble dryer fairies. When I found it a couple weekends back, was when multiple tragedies seemed to hit across the world, suddenly everyone was brought together in solidarity, mourning the lives lost that day. And a t-shirt doesn't exactly do much, it doesn't feel like anything at all, to be honest, but in the same way it feels meaningful. The words feel somewhat powerful and so if it makes at least one person stop and think, for a minute, then it's done it's job.

I personally find it so beautiful how much hope there still is in the world. It give's me hope and reminds me too live as much as I possibly can, to travel, to help and to create positive memories and impacts, not matter how small. I know one girl can't create a tidal wave but if I can touch even a few lives in a positive way, well, I think that's a good start.

It's also a really great hangover t-shirt ;)

Anywaaay, on a lighter subject, I upgraded my phone recently (finally in with the cool kids) and subsequently grabbed this cute as marble effect phone case from Coconut Lane to dress it. I'm super precious over my phones, mainly because I have a bad track record of dropping them, and so far this case has definitely proved itself as not just another pretty face.

Plus, right now you can get 20% off at Coconut Lane using the promo code 'fashiondew20', just in time to grab you're besties a last minute christmas pressie ;)

Online Loving #1

Sunday, oh how I love thee. Monday. I don't like you so much.
I'm not really getting a lot of time to nosey about online shopping (for myself) at the moment, I seem to find in the lead up to Christmas or my birthday there's literally nothing I'd like but once the time has past there's so much I want! I've been saving all these bits up in my wishlist folder for a couple of weeks now and oh my.. those boots are giving me life, that 70s style heel, yes please. Plus I'm totes into asymmetric hemlines right now and the Zara jumper is just calling to me, like the dress. Girl, I need the dress. And those plimsolls, well they feel like the perfect way to take on that white trainer trend without actually committing to trainers, what do you think?

Why do I blog?

Dress - Primark
Coat - Boohoo
Hat - Charity Shop (similar)
Bag - LaModa

'Why do you blog, like, when do you find the time?'

Thats what I find myself constantly being asked this week, its like everyone is confused. And to be honest it is damn hard to find the time, between school and work fitting in photo shoots can be a pain, loads of lunch times spent running around to snap a couple of pictures. Plus those deadline weeks are killer and sometimes the blog has to be neglected a little so I can get through. Honestly though these aren't really 'bad' things and if they were that bad I just wouldn't do them, right? There's so many good things about blogging that out way the annoying ones, there's so many reasons why I do this.

Opening Doors And Opportunities
Blogging is all about working with brads, getting free stuff and going to events, especially if you're a small time blog but it is an amazing perk when it does happen. Even in the short time I've been blogging I've been so lucky to have some really exciting opportunities offered to me, granted you can't do everything but being asked just feels amazing. Fashion Dew's already opened a ton of doors for me to work with people and I'm so excited too watch it grow!

Meeting Amazing People
Specifically fellow bloggers and people that I look up too, I've met some amazing girls through blogging, networking and supporting each others blogs. Being someone who's pretty awkward in social situations being able to meet and talk to a bunch of amazing girls who I already have a ton in common with is so refreshing.

Building Confidence
This is probably the most important thing for me, this is arguably why I blog and why I started to blog in the first place. Its so beneficial in building confidence, maybe its superficial but every time you guys comment or visit the blog it helps boost my confidence. It's help me so much that I'm at a point where I feel a lot more comfortable and confident talking to people, meeting people and generally doing things compared to where i was this time last year.

Being A Part Of Something
I've already covered this a little bit but generally being a part of a bigger community of people, an ever growing community is amazing. We all already have something in common, a group of people we can belong to and its generally a really cool thing to be a part of because bloggers, well, we're pretty cool people to know.

Creative Outlet
Probably a little cliche and cheesy but it is an outlet for me, okay, I haven't used it to my advantage yet but its such a good way to communicate your feelings, interests etc and connect with each other on a little more personal level when it comes to the hard issues. There's a handful of posts coming soon on Fashion Dew that really do feel like an outlet because it's important to talk about the tough things, to share stories and understand things from each other experiences and points of view.

I Love Blogging
Ultimately this is the most important factor and it's what I say to everyone who asks that question, I mean why do something you don't enjoy?

Why do you guys blog, what are your highlights?

Fortnightly Round-Up #4

I have been proper slacking on keeping the blog updated these last couple weeks, I keep making the excuse that its my uni work starting to pick up (my first deadline is this friday, eek!) and that sort of is true but I'm also enjoying going out and making new friends along with attempting to steal a couple minutes alone time here and there. I need to make an active decision to start shooting more and getting some posts stacked up, also a little clean up of Fashion Dew's appearance is needed me thinks, we'll see how it goes!

This fortnight
I went to see the ballet with my mum last monday, she had no idea what was going on but that's ballet right? I caught up with an old friend and we ended up in a cute little coffee shop sitting by the window chatting over coffee while the rain poured outside, it was lovely. I also found the time to be super impulsive and dye my hair foresty green which fitted quite well when I dressed up as the joker for halloween, better to go all out!

Hannah Gale made me giggle a little with a great post about the uncomfortable things that I think all girls can relate too.

Amelia over at Nabanna done a helpful little post about her daily make up and that's coming from someone who hates reading about beauty, who knows maybe i'm getting into it?

I saved this article about life lessons learned by a fashion student a few weeks ago, definitely worth a read if you're a fellow fash student!

Rebecca over at From Roses wrote apost about why we should all be proud of our blogs. It really made me think that actually I am proud of what we've got going on here, cause why shouldn't I be?

Hope your fortnight's have been lovely too, any good links/articles etc you've been reading?

Fall Nail Colour Must-Haves

Models Own HyperGel in Brunette Red
NYC Colour in Upper East Side

Nail colour is an essential for fall, with so many chunky knits and oversized silouettes keeping my nails looking killer is super important and adds a little beauty to any look. I mean I never used to be a perfectly polished, long nail type of girl but you have to admit they can look amazing, especially with a handful of rings thrown on! Even though my style is pretty ever-changing (I'm just growing with it) I've found these nail colours match with pretty much anything I wear so they're for sure my A/W beauty must-haves.

NYC colour in Upper East Side
This one is probably my fave, it's the perfect nude colour. I wear it for work, school , everything. It's just that little something extra you need to add a little elegance to a look plus it dries super quick and barely chips, which is impressive given what i put my nails through! It's so good that even my mum has stolen it, on multiple occasions

Models Own HyperGel in Brunette Red
Okay, so i don't know about you but my make up draw is just full of red nail varnishes, forever searching for the perfect red. Well I think I've managed it with this one, it's a really deep blood and a little bit vampy which is perfect and with halloween literally tomorrow?!
The only downside is it takes age to dry completely, silly me fell asleep an hour after painting my nails and woke up with my hair imprinted in the varnish, not cute.

Unbranded in Brown(?)
This one was a lucky find in the bargain bin at Superdrug but I thought i'd show you anyway seen as i'm wearing it so much. It's not the greatest when it ones to coverage, it takes more than a couple of coats to get a good colour but its such a nice colour I don't mind. It also lasts ages and barely chips at all. Not everyone is a brown nail kind person but trust me this one is super cute.

What are your favourite nail colours for fall? Red, beige, orange?

Excuse my stained blue nails, note to self: wear gloves when dying your hair!

Learning to Juggle

Duster Coat - Boohoo
Top - Primark
Skirt - H&M

Hey guys, this post is sooo late, we shot the pictures about a two weeks ago but trying to balance school, blogging and work is getting on top of me a little, but trust me I'm trying to work on that. It's just about learning to juggle i suppose.

Anyways, I wore this outfit last monday for uni and a couple meetings in an attempt to look somewhat fashionable and smart but also comfy enough for school. It was a little lazy on my part though, see roll necks are quickly becoming a sort of uniform for me, especially with my duster or a waistcoat thrown over the top. And this duster! I'm. so. in. love. I don't know why i haven't shown you it before! I'm really beginning to wish I'd invested in a wool one too but I just can't face coat shopping again, at least not this year. Generally the only downside to the outfit was trying to use an industrial sewing machine wearing those boots, not my brightest idea but I doubt it'll stop me from doing it again, I'm pretty dedicated to the heels ;)

Now, I wanna hear how you are! Whats your cute but comfy monday morning look?

Fortnightly Round-Up #3

Pictures from of tumblr.

This fortnight was a little more chilled for me, I properly started my uni projects and met some amazingly inspiring people because of it. I updated my little 'about me' section and made the pretty huge decision to trek round Mont Blanc next September, but more on that soon! I've had some lovely conversations and exchanged a load of smiles this fortnight which makes the dull days so much brighter.
Oh, and I got tickets to see my faves in concert again, roll on next april!

1. I found this post on 'A Girl, obsessed' really helpful when I felt a little overwhelmed with loads of new school stuff last week.

2. I'm sure you all know how much I love Buzzfeed, well this week they shared this amazing video filled with awkwardness and uncomfortable embraces. Truely beautiful.

3. All my TV shows are back for fall (queue the late night catsh up sessions) and i'm also loving River that's just started on BBC1 and House of DVF on E!, TV will be the reason I fail school, for sure.

4. Robowecop's post on anxiety (here) is really strong, we need to talk about mental health more, especially what anxiety really means.

5. And finally, I've set up my fundraising page for my trek next September, if you wanna learn more check it out here!

I haven't really been online or reading or anything much other than school this fortnight so I'll leave you with this!

EscapeShoes Wishlist - 15.10.15

1/2/3/4/5 - EscapeShoes

It's been a pretty busy couple of weeks for me and I'm definitely in need of a little tlc, where better to start than shopping, right? I have uni everyday and I've realised my 5-inch platform boots aren't really cutting it (cue ours of aching feet) so I'm on the hunt for some super cute and comfy boots; after all my feet deserve a little tlc too. Luckily EscapeShoes have got me covered on all fronts with a great selection and yeah, okay, some of these are still heeled but what's a girl to do? I'm sure my feet will survive.

I'll leave you with this little wishlist, as I'm still super busy, but be sure to let me know which ones are your faves; I love the tie-up details on number 5. However number 1 are probably my favourites, they're giving me biker chick vibes with that textured panel and I'm already imagining them with skinny jeans and my trusty leather, plus the heel size is a little more uni appropriate.

What do you wear to keep your feet comfy on long days?

Finding The Perfect Coat - 12.10.15

Coat - H&M

I feel like autumn is pretty much officially upon us now, in England anyway, the days are chillier, the nights roll in earlier and I've been searching for the perfect coat for what feels like ages. You know that moment of dread when you realise you have to buy a new coat? Well that moment lasted weeks for me, pretty sure I've tried on a hundred and one coats, but, finally I found the one. I'm pretty picky so I knew I wanted a coat with a tie-up belt with a big old collar in a length that wouldn't make my legs look super short, even though long coats are so in right now. Honestly I never thought I'd find it in a high street store or for the insanely good price it is but here we are and my bank balance still looking pretty healthy.  I think my favourite thing, though, is how mush more expensive it looks compared to what it actually costs. I don't mind people thinking it Jaeger when in reality it's H&M!

Have you found your perfect coat yet or are you still on the hunt?
Some of my favourite picks are below, I must say H&M are so on point this season, I'm dying to get my mitts on number three!
